Instagram has been the king of social media for visual content since it was first released in 2010. But over the past year, there’s been a new social media app that’s been on the rise – TikTok. If you’re not familiar with TikTok, it’s a short video app that is mainly used for entertainment purposes. But what makes TikTok so popular? And why should Instagram be worried? In this blog post, we’ll explore three reasons why TikTok is quickly becoming the new Instagram.
The app, developed by Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd., has gained a large following due to its mysterious algorithm, which delivers video clips it thinks you will enjoy. Last year it became the most popular website, surpassing even Google. It’s turned dancing influencers Addison Rae and Charli D’Amelio into household names and presented many influencers with appearances in TV shows, commercials, and movies. TikTok says it is “committed to creativity and inspiring a global community of creators” who make up a diverse set of content ranging from lip-syncing, comedy, to how-to videos.

It’s a FUN Video-first platform
The first reason TikTok takes the cake is that it’s a lot more fun and entertaining than Instagram. While Instagram is great for sharing photos and videos of your life, TikTok is built for making and watching short, funny videos. This makes it a more enjoyable experience for users, which is why it’s been growing in popularity so quickly. Insta is trying to combat this with Reels and slowly copying the features TikTok offers but we think it’s going to take a while for users to adopt them 100%.
Everyone is on TikTok
The second reason is that TikTok has a lot more users than Instagram. Although it’s not widely known in the U.S., over 500 million people use TikTok every month and this number continues to grow rapidly each day… As mentioned before, In 2021, TikTok became the most popular domain. Even more companies and people of all ages are embracing the weirdness that is TikTok, as we forget ourselves in the app for four hours at a time.
Next level influencer marketing
The third and final reason why we think TikTok will prevail over Instagram is because of its potential for businesses. TikTok has been growing in popularity with brands and businesses due to its ability to reach a large, engaged audience. Since right now the competition isn’t as big as it is on Instagram, marketing on TikTok can get great results at a relatively low budget.

These are our three reasons why TikTok has the potential to overtake Instagram as the world’s most popular social media app for brands. It will be interesting to see how both of these apps develop over time, but at least for now, it seems like TikTok is going places!
